Lilac Christie
Physiotherapist
Book with Lilac
Lilac had wanted to be a Physiotherapist since her high school days of athletic injuries and her own experiences of recovery with the help of a Physiotherapist. She graduated from McMaster University in 1995 with a baccalaureate degree in Physiotherapy, after attaining a BSc in Kinesiology from University of Waterloo. She spent the next 12 years in the USA working in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and home care settings, with a special interest in neurological rehabilitation with the older population. Upon return to Canada, she has worked again in hospitals and home care settings in Calgary.
She is now focusing on the private outpatient setting, after taking advanced training in dry needling, Canadian Physiotherapy Association manual therapy, concussion management, vestibular rehabilitation, and is also authorized by the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta to refer patients for x-ray, ultrasound, and MRI.
Throughout her career in diverse settings and locations with diverse patient populations in the USA and Canada, she continues to have a passion for helping people attain the best movement abilities as possible. She takes a client centered focus with a “whole person” perspective rather than an “isolated body part” perspective. That means helping someone overcome movement challenges and be able to “function” in whatever capacity their daily routine requires - personally, socially, professionally, and/or recreationally.
She has sustained and recovered from numerous and various injuries/surgery herself and can empathize with her patients from personal experience.
Lilac stays active and enjoys any outdoor activities including skiing, camping, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, cycling on the road and in mountains and taking her two dogs along if possible. Indoors, she enjoys weightlifting, yoga, and kickboxing.
Her past passions in competitive skydiving culminated in several world record titles including the world’s largest freefall formation (200 Way) in 1992 and as an original core member of the USA Women’s National Skydiving Team Synchronicity in 2000 and 2001, she won two World Championship titles and played a key role in helping to establish an international competitive skydiving category for women.
